A YOUNG marksman from Sutherland is making a name for himself competing at Down The Line (DTL) clay targets.

Hamish Munro, whose family run Highland Shooting Centre at Burnside Altass, won a Beretta shotgun after coming top overall in the C class high gun at the three-day English open DTL championships, held at Bywell Shooting Ground Northumberland, last month.

He was also junior runner-up after a shoot-off on day one and two of the competition.

A week later, on Friday, June 17, Hamish took the top junior place at a charity shooting event, the Sir Jackie Stewart Challenge Clay Pigeon Shoot, at Thirlestane Castle, near Lauder.

The fundraising event in aid of Race Against Dementia, was hosted by Sir Jackie Stewart, organised by the Scottish Clay Target Association (SCTA) and sponsored by Ely cartridges and Beretta guns.

The win gained Hamish a Beretta watch and some Ely cartridges.

Hamish also scooped the high gun in C class and was awarded another shotgun, presented by Sir Jackie himself.

He is now the Scottish C class champion 2022 and was selected to shoot this week as a junior at the famous Banbridge Shooting Ground in Northern Ireland.

Hamish will be representing Scotland as part of a 49-gun team competing in the European two-day open, the Five Nations International, and the British Open.

Race Against Dementia is a global charity, founded by Sir Jackie, that raises money to fund breakthrough and innovative research to find a cure for the disease.

Dementia affects more than 50 million people across the globe, including Sir Jackie’s wife Helen.

Sir Jackie was an Olympic class shot and competed for Scotland.

He retired from competitive shooting at 23 before taking up motor racing.
