Sutherland pupils take on cross country challenge

East Sutherland Schools Sports Association (ESSSA) held its annual primary schools cross country competition at Bonar Bridge and Ardgay Golf Club on Friday, April 26.

All eight primary schools in East Sutherland took part along with north-west Sutherland schools and Gledfield Primary School.

This year the races were split between P4-5 pupils and P6-7 pupils and also between boys and girls.

High Life Highland active schools coordinator Elissa Stevenson, who organised the event, said: “It was wonderful to see so many pupils taking part. They were all excited to be there and really did their best to get round the course as quickly as possible.”

Mrs Stevenson thanked school staff and volunteers who helped with marshalling and finish line tasks, and also the golf club for hosting the event and Councillor Jim McGillivray for presenting medals and trophies.

She said: “Events like these cannot happen without this ongoing support.”
