The Royal British Legion Scotland Creich and Kincardine Branch asked pipers in their area to play “When the Battle’s O’er” at 3pm on Friday to mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day.

Many pipers accepted the challenge including Roddy Mackenzie of Altass, who played at Rosehall’s war memorial. When he was a member of Wick Pipe Band, Roddy played at the 50th VE Day anniversary parade through the crowded streets of London, although on this occasion, due to present conditions, there was a crowd of only three.

At the other war memorials in the area the pipers were Gillian Sutherland at Ardgay, Chris Bowden at Bonar Bridge and Fraser Roach at Rogart. Also playing were Brian Mearns at Muie, Grant Cumming at Blairmore and Hope Gordon at West Langwell. Derick Macaskill also piped at the memorial in Dornoch.

Branch secretary Fiona Porter said “We are very grateful to everyone who helped arrange for the pipers to play and to all who volunteered. It was a lovely way to mark this significant day.”
