Golspie Bowling Club has donated £1150 to the community mental health team based at Sutherland’s Lawson Memorial Hospital.

Club representative Willie MacDougall presented a cheque to Heather Taylor, integrated team manager, at a presentation in the clubhouse last Friday.

The funding was raised through a race night held at the clubhouse on November 19.

Mr MacDougall said the club normally kept half of funds raised but had decided in this instance to hand it all over.

“We committed to giving 100 per cent of the proceeds to the mental health team because they need it, especially the way things are going at the moment,” he said.

Mr MacDougall also praised the generosity of businesses and individuals in the community who donated prizes for the race night and a raffle.

Ms Taylor said the team had been extremely touched by the donation, particularly as it was the first outside funding they had ever received to her knowledge.

“It was a nice surprise to hear that Willie had nominated us and for us to actually receive it is brilliant,” she said.

“We are going to get the team together in February and decided how best to spend the funds.”
