A north Sutherland man is facing sentences on a string of charges involving abusive behaviour toward police officers and road traffic offences including driving with excess alcohol.

Uisdean Mackay pleaded guilty at Wick Sheriff Court last week and will be sentenced next month.

Fiscal David Barclay accepted pleas of not guilty to additional charges.

The incidents took place at the entrance to the Forss House Hotel, on April 9, last year and at Caithness General Hospital, on April 9, last year. The 62-year-old acted in an aggressive manner, repeatedly shouted and swore at police officers, made threats of violence and challenged them to fight. He also struggled with them and lashed out at them.

In addition, Mackay was also found to have been driving while almost five times the legal limit.

The accused, of Steven Terrace, Strathy, also admitted driving without a licence and insurance and having a lock-knife in his possession.

Sheriff Ian Anderson called for a background report which he will consider on February 8 and will also hear details of the offences before passing sentence.
