A FUND set up last year to support food projects in Sutherland still has money available, it has been announced.

Organisations running community food projects are now being invited to apply for support from the fund.

The sum of £20,000 remains unspent, with an equal split of £10,000 allocated to each of Sutherland’s two council wards - East Sutherland and Edderton and North, West and Central Sutherland.

The funding is to support food security initiatives in Sutherland.

A Highland Council spokesperson explained: “Last year in addition to the Highland Cost of Living Fund, Highland Council’s Sutherland County Committee made a small amount of funding available to support food projects in Sutherland to address the cost of living crisis.

"A small amount of that fund remains unspent and is now available - up to March 31, 2024 - for food projects/larders.

“The funding can be used for food support in Sutherland, for example buying additional stock for larders, supplementing food parcels or larder stock with fresh produce etc

“The funding is limited - there is only approximately £10,000 for each Sutherland ward - so application should be tailored accordingly.’

Anyone who would like to submit an application can find the relevant form here.

Applicants should mark the email containing the application form ‘Sutherland Cost of Living’ and send it to: phil.tomalin@highland.gov.uk
