A north driver has been fined £200 for driving carelessly.

Derek Sutherland also incurred four penalty points after he pleaded guilty at Wick Sheriff Court on Wednesday.

The court heard that the 64-year-old joiner, of Bishopfield Road, Dornoch, overtook a car on the A9 at Dunbeath, on July 2, last year, when it wasn't safe to do so.

It was stated that the accused, a first offender, had decided to overtake because the driver ahead was travelling slowly.
