People in Sutherland will have the opportunity to explore their artistic side this April, by sampling some of the activities on offer at a new art fair.

The Art Fair and Open Day will be hosted by the East Sutherland Art Society at GoGolspie's Fountain Road Hall, and will be free entry to anyone who wishes to come along.

The open day, which takes place on Saturday April 2 between 11am and 3pm, will be the group's first event in two years.

A spokesperson for the group said: “We believe that there is a great demand from local people wishing to take up and develop their art.

"The open day will offer the chance to try three different opportunities with local artists to sample art in a 'hands on' way, by trying print making, sketching and drawing or using watercolour.

"There will also be a stall showing the history of the society and a chance to find out more about us.

"This will be a great opportunity to find out more about local creative opportunities and perhaps even buy a piece of art from a local artist."

Several of the society’s own members will have stalls selling and showing their own artwork.

Refreshments will be available, provided by Golspie Rowing Club, with proceeds going to support its fundraising for the World Championships.

Visitors will also be given the opportunity to sign up for the society’s summer programme of workshops and activities.

A range of affordable workshops will be on offer, including making mosaics, using sketchbooks and sketching, an introduction to watercolours, using acrylics, portrait drawing and an outdoor two day workshop.

Members will also have the chance to exhibit and sell some of their work at their annual exhibition at the end of July in Golspie.
