A statement on its website reads: "Naturally we are very disappointed, but in these challenging times the health and safety of all of these involved in the show is the most important thing."

The event had been due to take place on its usual site at Dornoch on July 25.

The Sutherland Agricultural Show began in 1951 to showcase the vitality and productivity of the largest county in the United Kingdom.

It presents an opportunity for farmers from far and wide to display the quality of their stock and annually attracts hundreds of visitors to Dornoch.
