There was a poignant surprise in store for Golspie resident Jennifer Port when she marked her milestone 40th birthday recently.

For husband Graeme had an extra special cake made for her in the shape of a lifeboat with the couple's five children sitting on the bow.

The lifeboat cake has an extra significance for Jennifer as her late father Campbell Port's name is on the side of Invergordon's new lifeboat the Agnes AP Barr as part of the RNLI's Launch a Memory campaign.

Mr Port, who died in 2018, was a community stalwart, serving on many community councils and club committees, including on Sutherland Sports Council and, for more than 10 years, as a trustee of Kilbraur Benefit Trust.

Jennifer said: “My late dad’s name is on Agnes AP Barr’s decal. For my 40th birthday, my husband thoughtfully had this wonderful cake made, with my dad’s name on the side and our five kiddies sitting on the bow.”

The impressed lifeboat team responded: “As like any lifeboat crew, we all love cake. However, look at this cake – it’s is absolutely outstanding! Happy birthday Jennifer from us all at Invergordon!”
