Support grows for 'supremely intelligent, compassionate' Kate Forbes

More and more names are coming out in favour of Kate Forbes in the SNP leadership race in a campaign will determine the next First Minister.

A number of MSPs and MP pull their support for Ms Forbes after comments about her religious convictions.

One who refused to budge was Inverness SNP Councillor Ken Gowans who has spent more than 50 years in the party.

After the hustings at Eden Court on Saturday Cllr Gowans said: "Kate Forbes is supremely intelligent, compassionate and determined, and has had a proven track record in government, commanding immense respect.

"Kate is honest, genuine and connects with people. I feel she is the best candidate to take us forward to deliver independence."

MSP Annabelle Ewing responded to Cllr Gowans tweet, writing: "Entirely agree. Kate Forbes is the woman who will lead Scotland to independence."

Ms Ewing's brother the Inverness and Nairn MSP has already backed Ms Forbes in glowing terms.

Then David Torrance the SNP MSP for Kirkcaldy Constituency said: "I’m backing Kate for leader as I personally believe that she is the candidate that can take us forward to an independent Scotland.

"Not only this, but she would be a formidable force against the opposition.

"She is the change that the party needs. She has the experience, skills and qualities needed for the role and I have no doubt that she would be a strong successor to Nicola Sturgeon.

"Whilst these are my personal thoughts, I would call on everyone to remain respectful of the views of others during this leadership contest."
