Strong local demand for breeding cattle at Caithness sale

Quoybrae, Aberdeen and Northern Marts on Monday sold 49 breeding cattle.

Heifer and bull calf (two) sold to £2400 for a British Blue Cross and Limousin calf at foot from Westerloch Farm, Wick.

Heifer with heifer calf (two) sold to £2300 for a Beef Shorthorn Cross with Limousin calf at foot from Westerloch Farm.

Cow with bull calf (21) sold to £2550 for a Shorthorn cow with Charolais calf at foot from Westerloch Farm.

Cow with heifer calf (23) sold to £3000 for a Shorthorn cow with Shorthorn calf at foot from Tackmore, Lybster.

Breeding bulls (two) sold to 2600gns for a four-year-old Charolais from Westerloch.

“A strong local demand was achieved today for breeding cattle with some buyers returning home empty handed.”

Leading prices per head:

Cow with heifer calf – Tackmore (ShoX) £2700, Westerloch £2550 (BSHX), £2450 (LimX), £2300 (BRBX, BSHX).

Cow with bull calf – Westerloch £2500 (ShoX), £2500 (LimX), £2500 (BSHX), £2300 (LimX, HerX).

Breeding bull – Aberdeen Angus 2000gns, Kilimster Mains.
