CalMac has cancelled all of its planned passenger ferry sailings on Thursday in response to Storm Babet.

In an update to passengers shortly before 6.30am, CalMac confirmed that no daytime sailings will take place between Ullapool and Stornoway in either direction.

It also warned that Thursday's overnight freight sailings, and the passenger services on Friday are also at risk of "disruption or cancellation at short notice" and urged people to keep an eye on updates as Thursday and Friday progress.

Confirming the cancellation of services on Thursday, a spokesman said: "Due to a forecast of adverse weather, all sailings on this route are cancelled.

"Cancelling a sailing is a decision we do not take lightly because we know it will inconvenience our customers and the communities we serve. However, the safety of our customers and crew must come first.

"In this instance, the master of the vessel has judged it is necessary in response to the assessment of adverse weather conditions."

Moving on to the possibility of delays or cancellations overnight and on Friday, they added: "Due to forecast strong south-easterly winds, all sailings are liable to disruption or cancellation at short notice.

"We’ll keep customers informed should there be any further changes in connection to this route. If you’ve not already done so, download our app or follow our Twitter @CalMac_Updates so we can provide you with timely updates, with the latest information we have available.
