Members of Sutherland County Committee agreed at their January meeting to approve the award of £35,345 from the Community Regeneration Fund towards the upgrade and resurfacing project.

A post on the Assynt Foundation social media page states: "Our project to repair and improve our bit of the road to Glencanisp is under way. The bit from Lochinver to the depot corner is not covered as we don't own it.

"Our thanks go to Highland Council administered funds for grants and also to private donors for enabling this."

The Assynt Foundation has also said that peatland restoration work on Cul Mor, which has Corbett status, has now been completed.

A spokesman said: "Excellent work has been done. It is quite hard to spot lots of the work, as it has been done with such great care and skill."
