Sutherland great-grandmother (90) who touched hearts of the nation with her fundraising Stairway to Suilven challenge, is commended at the Scottish Parliament

Highlands and Islands MSP Edward Mountain has praised the fundraising efforts of Margaret Payne by lodging a Scottish Parliament motion.

Margaret Payne has so far raised almost £280,000 after deciding to climb the equivaent of the height of Highland peak Suilven (2398 feet) on her stairs at home.

She had originally hoped to raise £10,000.

Mr Mountain said: “Margaret Payne is truly going above and beyond in her fundraising efforts and it is right that her endeavours are acknowledged at the Scottish Parliament.

"I wish Margaret success as she continues her climb.

"Every donation counts and will make a big difference to helping NHS Highland and Highland Hospice during the pandemic.”
