St Finnbarr's Charity Shop in Dornoch disburses £24k to 24 local charities after 'successful year'

A DORNOCH charity shop has distributed £24,000 to 24 charities after "another successful year".

St Finnbarr's Charity Shop was set up by St Finnbarr's Scottish Episcopal Church 40 years ago and has raised more than £200,000 in that time.

Each year the money raised is divided equally between the church and local charities.

The shop originally operated from a small room above the town's pharmacy but later moved to its present location along from the cathedral.

Staffed by hardworking volunteers, it is open from 10am-1pm Monday to Wednesday and 10am-4pm Thursday to Saturday.

Donated items are gratefully accepted, aside from electrical items, furniture, cots, prams or bikes.

A spokesperson for the shop said: "The charity shop would not be so successful without the support of its loyal customers so huge thanks are due to them."

The charities supported this year are: Alzheimer Scotland, Bradbury Centre, Caithness and Sutherland Women’s Aid, CCAST (foodbank), Connecting Communities, Dornoch Academy School Fund – to be used for additional support needs, Dornoch Beach Wheelchairs, Dornoch Bowling Club, Dornoch Community Electric Car, Dornoch and District Community Association, Dornoch Firth Group, Dornoch Junior Football, Enable Works (Highland Project), ESRA (East Sutherland Rescue Association), Friends of Oversteps, Historylinks, Lawson Cambusavie Memorial Hospital Friends, Maggies Highland, Meadows Patient’s Comfort Fund, Mikeysline, Multiple Sclerosis Society, Sight Action, SSAFA (Armed Forces Charity), Sutherland Care Forum.

, located along from Dornoch Cathedral, has been run for the last 40 years by St Finnbarr's Scottish Episcopayl Church.

During that time it has raised more than £200,000 for local good causes.
