Golspie man Alisdair Miller has received a well-deserved award for his long-standing work for local charity SSAFA Sutherland.
At a recent ceremony in Brora Golf Club, Alisdair was presented with a certificate and badge in recognition of his hard work for SSAFA over more than ten years.
SSAFA – the Soldiers’, Sailors’, Airmen’s and Families Association – is a UK-wide organisation which helps serving and retired Armed Forces personnel – and their families – in time of need.
Alisdair served 37 years in the Queens Own Highlanders and Small Arms School Corps, leaving in the rank of major. He moved back to Sutherland in 2008, immediately after the end of his army service.
In his work with SSAFA, he has not only secured financial support for many clients, but he has also kept the SSAFA Sutherland branch running smoothly in his role as its secretary.
SSAFA Sutherland chairman William Sutherland said: "Alisdair Miller is a stalwart of SSAFA here in Sutherland. Many ex-service veterans and their families have benefited from his conscientious, compassionate work in helping get them the support they need, when they need it.
"In his work as secretary, he has also ensured that our branch operates effectively in its charitable work. Alisdair’s contribution to the welfare of service veterans here in Sutherland has been exemplary, and he richly deserves this award."
