Plenty of snow has fallen at Cairngorm Mountain in recent days and the ski resort could open earlier than anticipated.

With the freezing spell forecast to continue well into the month, it has been a very encouraging start to winter 2022/23.

Cairngorm Mountain (Scotland) chief executive Susan Smith said: "We have lots of snow at present and it’s looking like this cold snap will last through Christmas which would be fabulous.

"We are still on target to open for snowsports on December 21.

"If the technical team can manage to make the lifts operational prior to that date, then we may be in a position to open early but it very much depends upon conditions, snow cover and staff resource.

"The technical team are presently working on the testing and commissioning of the funicular and this is hugely important."
