The owner of the lighthouse keeper's cottages at Dunnet Head said she was delighted to host another television production crew last week.

The iconic location is situated on the most northerly point of the British mainland and it is the sixth time in just two years that TV production companies have sent crews to film at the location, according to owner Angela Nicholson who is married to Dr Keith Nicholson of Thurso based company Cyber Security Scotland.

"We were delighted to host a production crew from Caledonia TV at the lighthouse last week," said Angela. “Most spend a few hours on site and leave. This time, however, the crew wanted to experience staying at the lighthouse and booked one of the keeper's cottages.”

The team were in Caithness filming an episode of Mach a Seo, a Gaelic travel program for BBC Alba due for transmission later this year featuring Ramsay MacMahon's adventures in Caithness.

“This is the sixth film crew we’ve hosted at the lighthouse over the past couple of years,” Keith continued. “It's been a great experience watching the crew at work, seeing how many different scenes are filmed. As well as this production team, we’ve had companies making programmes for the BBC, Channel 4, Channel 5 and French TV channel TF1.”

The lighthouse and cottages have been a venue for contributions to many travel shows including Michael Portillo’s Coastal Railway Journeys and artist Leo du Feu on his journey through the north for a Channel 5 programme on Scotland’s railways.

Angela enthused: “We’re looking forward to seeing the BBC Alba programme and what other areas of Caithness will be covered. Caithness always looks great on TV, it’s easy to take for granted what a fantastic place to live this is.”

The Nicholsons own the Dunnet Head Lighthouse Keeper's Cottages and surrounding area and the Northern Lighthouse Board owns, maintains and runs the lighthouse tower.
