It was a busy day with more than 6200 sheep sold.
It was a busy day with more than 6200 sheep sold.

DINGWALL and Highlands Marts Ltd sold 6257 sheep of all classes including Lewis’s livestock producers.

Lambs (4,271) averaged £63.26 and sold to £103 gross for a pair of Texel crosses from Lochside Croft, Thrumster.

Ewes and feeding sheep (853) sold to £136 gross for a pen of Texel cross ewes from Muirton Mains, Urray.

Lewis Livestock Producers lambs (1,065) averaged £53.27 and sold to £94 gross for a pen of Texel crosses from 24b Lionel, Ness.

Lewis Livestock Producers feeding sheep (68) sold to £112 gross for a Cheviot ram from Tigh Na Rudha, Eoropie.

The mart verdict: “Another busy sale of the store lambs and feeding ewes greeted a busy ringside of buyers. The quality of the sheep is starting to downgrade now as the we venture into the small hill lamb territory. Trade overall wouldn’t have been as sharp as last week however the quality of the sheep wouldn’t be the same either.”
