A Sutherland Army Cadet has been appointed as the new Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet of the area.

Cadet Sergeant Hunter Ross (16), from Dornoch Detachment 1st Battalion The Highlanders, was appointed to the year-long post in a recent presentation.

It took place at the Dornoch Cadet Centre where the Lord Lieutenant of Sutherland, Dr Monica Main, inspected the Detachment – who were all smartly turned out.

After the inspection she presented Hunter with his certificate of appointment as the new Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet of Sutherland.

The presentation was attended by Ross Company Commander Major George MacDonald as well as members of Hunter’s family.

Hunter has been a member of the Army Cadets since April 2015 and one of the company’s Senior Cadet Instructors, teaching the Cadet Force Syllabus to junior and senior cadets of the Detachment and Ross Company.

He has also taken advantage of many extra activities and opportunities which being a cadet offers, from representing the Company and Battalion in competitions to attending week long STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Camps to see how his school subjects are used in the Armed Forces.

As Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet, Sgt Ross will attend events which the Lord Lieutenant of Sutherland attends in her capacity as Her Majesty The Queen's appointed representative of the area.
