'Selfless, dedicated and professional': Members of Assynt Mountain Rescue team receive Queen's Platinum Jubilee Medals
Sutherland Lord Lieutenant Major General Patrick Marriott has presented Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Medals to 20 members of Assynt Mountain Rescue Team.
A presentation ceremony was held at a family afternoon at the mountain rescue team’s Inchnadamph base last Sunday.
The special commemorative medals are being awarded to all members, retained or volunteers, of emergency services, who have five or more years service. Between them the 20 rescue team members have given over 230 years of service.
Among those recognised were current team leader Tim Hamlet and former leaders Willie Marshall, Graham McFadyen and Sue Agnew.
Major General Marriott attended the ceremony along with his wife Henrietta, who in her role as a volunteer BASICS emergency responder, discussed joint training with the team.
He said the medals were a “very just reward".
“They are an exceptional team, dedicating a great deal of time and effort to the role,” he said.
“They come from all backgrounds and from all over Sutherland and Caithness. All share remarkably special traits – they are selfless, dedicated and professional.
“The presentation was made all the more special by the families present and you could feel their very real pride at hearing someone praising the courage of the volunteers. Caithness and Sutherland are hugely fortunate to have such an effective team serving us all."
