Presentations were said to be 'bursting with creativity, information and passion' in the finals of Golspie High School's YPI competition last month.

At an event on January 29, six teams championed charitable causes from around the north.

After much deliberation from the judges, the winning team of Poppy Mackay and Georgie Maclennan earned £3000 for their chosen charity, Kats Second Editions.

The Tain based charity was formed in 2021 with the primary aim of redistributing surplus clothing items to children to keep them warm during the autumn and winter months.

Throughout 2022, the charity helped to provide clothes for 741 children from 676 families – not only from Tain but across Easter Ross and Inverness and most recently to families in Bonar Bridge, Dornoch, Golspie and Brora.

Charity founder Kats Macleod said: "I am just so pleased to have been chosen as the recipient of the £3000. This will benefit Kats' Second Editions immensely. We are getting busier by the week and are therefore delivering further afield, travelling as far as Inverness, Brora and all the villages and towns in between.

"The funds will help pay for fuel in the first instance. Due to the number of donations being received on a daily basis, we are also looking into better ways to store the donations until they can be delivered.

"I would like to take this opportunity to say how impressed I was with all of the presentations on the day. You could tell that every group worked incredibly hard leading up to the event.

"I must say a huge thanks to to Poppy and Georgie for supporting Kats Second Editions and for winning us the much needed funds. Two very hard-working young ladies who really threw themselves not only into their presentations but also when helping Kats Second Editions during their annual Christmas Toiletries Appeal. They are a total credit to Golspie High School."

Representatives for the school thanked each of the charities for the support shown to the finalists throughout their preparation. A note of thanks was also given to the East Sutherland Rotary Club, who have been a supporter of the YPI competition for a number of years.

The full list of finalists included:

Cassie and Abi Dunbar and Iona Heys for Caithness and Sutherland Women's Aid

Wilbur and Ocean Miller, Max Ainsworth, Demi Fraser and Liam Gibbard for Rape & Sexual Abuse Service Highland
