Emergency services came together yesterday afternoon (Sunday, April 2) to search for a possible missing person after clothing was found at the Trinkie outdoor pool near Wick.

A pair of white trainers and "neatly folded" black Adidas jogging trousers were first seen around lunchtime yesterday and the police were alerted at around 5.30pm after the clothing was still lying at the clifftop beside the Trinkie. Coastguard and lifeboat services were called in to assist in the search.

Wick, Duncansby and HM Coastguard Scrabster teams were called out and worked alongside RNLI Wick Lifeboat and Police Scotland. The search was conducted along the Trinkie area as well as the North Baths to Papigoe. No persons were located and the search teams were stood down as darkness fell.

A coastguard spokesperson said: "Thank you to the member of the public who reported the incident. As always, if you spot someone in danger or see anything suspicious around the coast, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard."

A police spokesperson said: "The owner of the clothing is still unknown and officers are keen to identify the owner of the clothes so their welfare can be confirmed.

"If anyone has any information on who this clothing may belong to, or if they have concerns about a person they have not been able to contact, please contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting reference number 2681 of April 2, 2023."
