East Sutherland Rescue Association (ESRA) was called out just before 3am along with the RNLI lifeboat based at Invergordon.

Coastguard shore teams and the Coastguard helicopter were also involved.

However, rescuers were stood down after no trace of anyone in the water could be found.

Neil Dalton, chairman of ESRA, said: “It was a false call with good intent. Nothing was found.”
