Scottish Government supports Sutherland communities during pandemic with more than £250k funding

Sutherland has received almost £250,000 from the Scottish Government’s Supporting Communities Fund and the Scottish Foundation’s Response, Recovery and Resilience Fund during the current Covid-19 crisis.

This includes £52,780 to the Dornoch community and £42,207 to the Kyle of Sutherland area.

Communities secretary Aileen Campbell said: “We know that community groups working in the heart of our communities and neighbourhoods have a wealth of experience in responding to challenges.

“We have seen this through many examples of the incredible response to Covid-19 in the past weeks that have made such a huge difference to so many people.

“This inspiring work that is already under way in our neighbourhoods is proving essential to our nation’s resilience.

“This funding will be a valuable lifeline for the range of innovative support available for people in our communities, and we are working fast to get that support to where it is needed most.”

Groups receiving money from the Supporting Communities Fund are:

Assynt Development Trust – £29,008; Bettyhill, Strathnaver and Altnaharra Community Council – £9,770; Brora and District Action Group – £31,350; Dornoch Firth Group – £47,788; Go Golspie Development Trust – £10,000; Helmsdale and District Community Council – £8700; Kinlochbervie Ceilidh House – £19,047; Kyle of Sutherland Development Trust – £37,207; Rogart Development Trust – £10,000; Scourie Community Development Company – £11,500; Voluntary Groups Sutherland – £4263.

Total for Sutherland – £218,633.

The Response, Recovery and Resilience Fund (Foundation Scotland in partnership with the National Emergencies Trust) is the new emergency support fund set up to support small charities and constituted groups which are rapidly adapting and responding to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic to reach the most affected people through Covid-19.

Those groups receiving funding from it are:

Dornoch Firth Group – £5000; Kyle of Sutherland Development Trust – £5000; CAB – £5000; Scourie Community Development Company – £5000; Sutherland Care Forum – £4172; Bradbury Centre – £2382; Lairg and District Community Initiative – £2500; Dementia Friendly Communities – £1000.

Total for Sutherland – £30,054.

Overall total for Sutherland – £248,687.
