Scottish Government 'forgets' Sutherland in Storm Babet traffic advice web page

SCOTLAND'S national transport agency has been left with egg on its face ­– after its website dedicated a page to Storm Babet advice but initially failed to mention Caithness, Sutherland or Ross-shire on a table of amber weather warnings.

Traffic Scotland, which is run by Transport Scotland ­– the Scottish Government’s national transport agency – updated its website on Wednesday in response to news that new red and amber weather warnings had been issued for the country by the Met Office.

A handy new link – highlighted in red ­to match the warning severity – was set up at the top of Traffic Scotland's homepage on Wednesday morning, directing people to a dedicated page highlighting key information about where and when the warnings will take effect.

But, when internet users clicked on the link, they found that not all of the pertinent information was present on the 'handy' tables.

For eagle eyed web users spotted no mention of either Highland – as the council area – or the historic counties of Caithness, Sutherland and Ross-shire... despite them being subject to an amber warning.

Whoops!

Fortunately, the error did not last for very long – and within an hour of it coming to light, Traffic Scotland had updated the page to also include the Highland warning and its active time window.
