Ullapool’s Tesco supermarket has provided food and school supplies to the town’s high school to help pupils whose families may be struggling with the cost of living.

Andrew Hayton, line manager at the supermarket, said:”A few weeks ago I was approached by a staff member of the high school, Gaelic teacher Anna MacLeod, regarding a breakfast club, as some of the students don’t seem to be having breakfast due to several things like money worries and long travels from another town to get to Ullapool High.

“The idea was to set up an area for kids to go get something either in the morning or afternoon to eat so that at least they are having something.

“We also sent over a donation of school supplies to help, as we do every year.”

Ullapool High School has an intake of around 200 pupils, many of whom travel in long distances from beyond Ullapool itself to get there every morning.

The Tesco supermarket also makes regular donations of food items including fruit and veg to the Ullapool Community Pantry and is always happy to talk to anyone about how they can help out with other community projects.
