Santa made waves when he arrived in Dornoch last Saturday, ditching his reindeer team to travel in East Sutherland Rescue Association’s lifeboat, which had been specially decorated for the occasion.

A land rover pulled the boat round the town and out to Camore as accompanying elves undertook a bucket collection.

ESRA spokesman Antony Hope said: “A great time was had by all and £250 was raised. Santa handed out sweets and books from Dornoch Bookshop.

“ESRA is an independent lifeboat association and gets no funding from the government or national organisations. We depend on our volunteers and the generosity of the community to fund our operations and training.”

The group is looking forward to taking delivery next year of a new lifeboat, to be named Wildland after Anders Holch Povlsen’s company, which provided the funding for it.
