Salmon firm named 'Exporter of the Year'

Scottish salmon farming business, Loch Duart, which is based in Sutherland and the Uists, has been named Exporter of the Year at the 2019 Made in Scotland Awards.

The firm, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, was judged to have demonstrated outstanding export growth.

It has increased its sales by 68 per cent over the last two financial years - an all-time high for the business.

Loch Duart now exports around 70 per of its production to more than 20 countries.

Managing director Alban Denton said: “We are so proud that Loch Duart has been named Exporter of the Year.”

“We’re a small company with big ambitions and this is a success we share with our loyal customers around the world. “

Mr Denton paid tribute to his “amazing team” at farms in Sutherland and the Uists and to his office staff both in this country and in France.

He said: “We work hard to get Loch Duart salmon on the menus of restaurants and hotels across the globe.”

The Scottish Business Insider Awards, were hosted by Fred MacAuley at the Glasgow Science Centre.
