Is superstar actor, producer and music man Russell Crowe heading to Inverness?

The A-lister has sparked huge local and worldwide interest after suggesting on X, formerly Twitter, that he might appear in the Highland capital.

The New Zealand and Australia-raised celebrity, posed the question with a nod to his clan "relatives" the Frasers of Lovat whose homeland is near Beauly just north of Inverness.

He said online: "What about a gig in Inverness? Any Fraser of Lovat relatives want to come?"

There followed huge interest with many chipping in from all over, anxious to interest Crowe into coming to visit them - including an invite to play this summer's Belladrum Festival staged in the heart of Lovat Fraser territory beside Beauly.

It looks like Crowe could be coming to the UK this summer. In response to one invitation to Liverpool, Crowe replied he would be "down the road" from there on July 4.

There have also been suggestions he should hook up with people from the global hit series Outlander that famously was shot in and around Inverness, and attracts huge numbers of fans to the area.

His Inverness tweet led to more than 110 comments and 120,000 views.

Rebecca Anderson suggested "You could invite the cast of

@Outlander_STARZ They are getting ready to start filming the final season."

PermanentlyCurious @Permanentcuriou posted: "100%. Could I seriously recommend you play the Belladrum Festival in the heart of Lovat Fraser land, and only 15 miles from Inverness? It would be ideal. Genuinely check it out!!"

Crowe has long been involved in the music scene, and overr the years has collaborated with many bands worldwide to sing and play guitar.

In 2017, Crowe was heavily involved in creating a new act called Indoor Garden Party which cut an album called The Musical.

In June 2023, Crowe sang in concert with Indoor Garden Party in Bologna. The concert completely sold out and the total proceeds were donated to the flood victims of Emilia-Romagna.
