An East Sutherland community is getting ready to party today - Bank Holiday Monday, May 6.

Brora is repeating its hugely successful Party in the Park, first held last year to mark the coronation of King Charles III.

This year’s event will take place in Fascally Park from midday, as it did last year, and will mark the first anniversary of the coronation and the arrival of summer.

The Party in the Park runs from 12pm to 4pm.
The Party in the Park runs from 12pm to 4pm.

It is being organised by a number of local organisations including Clyne Heritage Society, Brora Community Enterprise, the Rotary Club of East Sutherland and local charities.

The family-friendly event, which is free to attend, has the theme ‘Royal Teddy Bears Picnic Party’ and everyone is invited to bring their teddy bears, with free marmalade and honey sandwiches on offer if they do.

It is hoped to attempt the largest teddy bear conga in the Highlands.

There will be plenty to see and do with a bouncy castle, fancy dress characters, Clydesdale horses, fun competitions and sports and games.

Music will be provided by Strathfleet Buttons and Bows, Sutherland Schools Pipe Band and singer Lesley Graham.

There will be around 10 charity stalls and a bakery stall in the park as well as Capaldis Ice Cream.

Capaldi’s is sponsoring a special Colour in a Teddy Bear competition and every primary school child from Brora, Golspie and Helmsdale schools can enter and bring their artwork to the party for a chance to win a prize.

The Lord Lieutenant of Sutherland Patrick Marriott, who attended last year’s party, is expected to make an appearance.

A free shuttle bus will run from Brora throughout the afternoon.
