Writer Kirsty Gunn, who has a base in Rogart, has co-produced a collection of essays entitled Imagined Spaces.
Ms Gunn, a profesor of writing practice and study at the University of Dundee, produced the book in collaboration with a teaching colleague, English lecturer Gail Low.
The two drew together a collection of essays, drawings and photographs from leading writers, artists and architects as well as educationalists.
Contributors were asked to reflect on what uncertainty meant to them.
Ms Gunn, an award winning novelist, said: “When we started the project, we had no idea that there was a pandemic around the corner!
“Now that the book has been published, though, these questions we’ve been asking seem more relevant than ever.”
The 222-page volume also explores the theme of northern landscapes and what it means to live in north Scotland.
Ms Gunn’s earlier novels and works have also explored the idea of north.
“Sutherland, with its wide open spaces and breathtaking scenery is endlessly inspiring to me” she said.
“We have to protect and hold onto this landscape, to preserve its special qualities.
“I see the proliferation of wind turbines across our hills, making money for a few but spoiling the lives of most of us by breaking up our sense of environment in all kinds of ways.
“From interfering with nature to making an industrialised landscape out of wild places. We must protect what we love by celebrating it. Gail and I hope this book we’ve edited might contribute towards that.”
Imagined Spaces is available at amazon.co.uk, priced £10.63.
