The educational aspects of the Littleferry project are an essential part of its ethos.

Some of the children who visited the memorial will have ancestors who would have been present at the 1746 battle.

The children were taken by the project’s educational lead, Judith Macleod, on a nature walk in nearby Balblair Wood.

Judith then told stories of what it was like for three generations of her family living in Balblair Cottage with anecdotal stories told to her by her granny and mother.

This was followed by a picnic on the beach.

Project leader Major General Patrick Marriott told pupils about the story of the Battle of Littleferry. The children loved being shown an 1830 pattern infantry officer’s sword.
