The main Lairg to Bonar Bridge road was closed for nearly six hours yesterday after a timber lorry overturned and shed its load near Invershin.

The wood was scattered over both carriageways, completely blocking the road.

A witness said it seemed that the lorry, owned by Rapsons of Helmsdale, had been travelling south and then hit a crash barrier, forcing it to topple over.

While the vehicle overturned on one side, the long lengths of timber slipped off the other side and many fell down an embankment.

The witness said it was very lucky that the driver was unhurt and that no other vehicle was in the vicinity at the time.

Traffic was diverted via Rosehall.
