Riders of the Storm wow crowds at Lairg Crofters Show after skies clear in time for main events

It has been running for more than a century but has lost none of its energy, atmosphere and charm.

The 2023 Lairg Crofters Show took place last Saturday, August 26. and once again attracted a large turnout with all enjoying the packed programme of events and activities.

Karin Ross, who helps organise the show, revealed committee members were concerned at the rainy weather conditions in the morning.

But she said: “The skies brightened up in the afternoon when all the main events of the day took place.

“Overall the show turned out to be a great success and we can’t thank everyone enough for braving the weather.”

Ms Ross said there was a new show committee in place with members coming up with “lots of fresh new ideas” for future shows.

“We hope to continue the success of this year’s show for many years to come,” she said.

Two new shields have been donated to the show. Costcutter (Bridgend Stores, Lairg) donated an award for the most points in the pre-school category in the industrial tent children’s section.

And the McGettigan family have donated the Lisa McGettigan Memorial Shield for the junior in hand class at the horse show.

Young Willow Morrison was awarded a trophy after scoring the most points in the children's sports.

The Tug of War Shield was shared by the Crofters Show Ladies team and the Young Team.

Jan Trumble won the terrior racing.

Baby Show winners were:

0-6 months - Rio Young

6-12 months - Effie Fraser

Local overall winner - Effie Fraser
