Tain Gala made a triumphant return to the local calendar last year after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic.

Fantastic weather resulted in an excellent turnout for the committee’s comeback event – and this year they are aiming to build on the success with a “revamped” programme designed to focus on the community festival’s most popular events.

Commenting on this year’s programme, Tain Gala chairperson Alasdair Rhind said: “This year we have organised a slightly shorter week focusing on the more popular events.

“We have also rebranded the Saturday by continuing with the traditional events such as fancy dress and the float parade, the return of the Jez Avery Stunt Show, along with crafts and teas in the marquee.

“Later in the afternoon, we are introducing a more festival type vibe featuring local bands and musicians, children’s entertainment and a wide variety of food and drinks.

“We hope you enjoy our new, revamped Gala. We have certainly enjoyed organising it and are very excited about it as a committee.

“We love nothing better than seeing you all gathering, enjoying yourselves and creating lasting memories.”

The run up to Gala Saturday begins today (Wednesday, June 28) with a 10k run and 3k fun run. The following day, this year’s Gala Queen will be crowned at the Rose Gardens, just off Tain High Street, before Gala goers take part in a pet show, followed by the Tain and District Talent Showcase.

Friday will round off the week with fun for the kids. The Teddy Bears’ Picnic gets things under way from 11am and further fun will be had at 3pm with Artie and his Singing Kettles.

In the evening, a family quiz and games night is planned at the marquee.
