Services on the line are set to be cancelled or revised as urgent work to repair damages caused by Storm Babet are set to last for a week.

The line between Helmsdale and Brora is expected to be closed until November 6 for urgent repairs to railway line – where a sea defence was damaged.

Yesterday, Far North MP Jamie Stone has urged the CEO of Network Rail to urgently repair what he called the "vital lifeline" from Inverness to the far north.

Trains from Wick to Inverness will terminate at Helmsdale or be cancelled and trains still running from Inverness will terminate at Lairg.

Storm Babet caused extensive flooding and damages to roads in the Highlands, with major disruption caused to train travel on the line.
