REMEMBRANCE DAY: Good turnout for services at Bettyhill and Syre War Memorials

In the absence of a minister, the annual services at Bettyhill and Syre War Memorials were conducted by members of the local Church of Scotland congregation, writes Jim A Johnston.

Peter Dyson and Amanda Mackay officiated at Bettyhill at 11am followed by a similar service at Syre at 3pm conducted by Amanda.

There was a good turnout at both places with around 30 people at Bettyhill and 16 at Syre.

A wreath was laid at Bettyhill on behalf of the emergency services by firefighter Stephen Mackay while a community wreath was laid by Pauline Mackay at Bettyhill and at Syre by Donald Macleod.

A collection on behalf of Poppyscotland raised a total of £251.72, comprising £179.87 at Bettyhill and £71.85 at Syre.
