People in the Reay area are being encouraged to get involved with the local garden club’s annual show, which is due to take place on Saturday, August 26.

The event at the Victoria Hall from 2.30pm is open to everyone, with all exhibits welcomed.

Anyone who would like to exhibit can either stage their entries on the Friday between 7pm and 8pm or on the morning of the show between 9am and 11am. Schedules are available from Reay Golf Club, W & D Ross, Bud’s n’ Blooms and the Veterinary Surgery, Thurso.

There will be a wide range of colour in the form of flower arranging, pot plants, cut flowers, vegetables, fruit, produce and baking. Afternoon teas will be available.

This year the awards will be handed over by Mr Rowland Shallcross.

A spokeswoman for Reay Garden Club said: “We encourage the young folks to get involved and have classes for pre-school and school children in the baking sections. We must not forget the ever popular class for the children to make something from fruit and/or vegetables. This year we are looking for some fabulous ‘Superheroes’.

“The club is very grateful for the exhibits made by the children from Reay Primary School, for their talent and effort, along with the support from the staff, into producing the lovely displays that can be seen in the hall on the day of the show.”

The garden club meets on the first Wednesday of the month in the Reay hall at 7.30pm. It has a varied programme – not just on gardening – with slides, talks, discussions, outings and other social activities, and all are welcome.
