Quoybrae Caithness sale: Cattle exceed sellers' expectations

Quoybrae, Aberdeen and Northern Marts on Monday, May 1, sold 107 store cattle, 1083 ewes with lambs at foot, prime, store and feeding sheep.

Bullocks (50) averaged 321.4p per kg to 381.9p for a pen of five 343kg Charolais crosses and £1760 for a pair of 591kg Charolais crosses from Gillock Mains.

Heifers (57) averaged 300p per kg to 356.9p for a 339kg Charolais crosses from Bardnaclavan, Bridge of Westfield and £1590 gross for a 542kg for Simmental from Hunster, Bower.

Old season prime lambs (291) averaged 260.3p and sold to 310.7p for 42kg suffolks from Thirdpart, Watten and £157.50 gross for a 75kg Texel from South Keiss, Wick.

Ewes with lambs at foot (85) sold to £92 for life for Cheviot ewes with hill Cheviot lambs at foot from Auckhorn, Lyth.

Old season store lambs (404) sold to £109.50 for Texels from Quarryside, Castletown and Strath Farm, Watten.

Feeding ewes and rams (303) averaged £86.75 sold to £181.50 for a Texel ewe from 6 Oldfield Terrace, Thurso.

“Store cattle sold well above seller expectations with grazing cattle wanted. Sheep trade followed recent trends.”
