Sutherland has once again proved it is providing a gold standard hospitality service.

Two Dornoch hotels have come up trumps for the second year running in the prestigious Scottish Hotel Awards.

Both Dornoch Castle Hotel and Links House at Royal Dornoch featured in the top spots.

And a third hotel in the county, the Kylesku Hotel won an accolade for the quality of its food.

The winners were revealed virtually on Monday night on the awards' Facebook page after the physical ceremony had to be cancelled due to the pandemic.

Links House at Royal Dornoch took the title of Luxury Country Hotel of the Year once again and also picked up the Highland regional winner award for Golf Hotel of the Year.

And not only that, but the hotel's general manager Phil Scott went home with the Rising Star Manager of the Year Award.

And the awards just kept coming, with the Links' housekeeping team winning a Highland regional award.

Mr Scott said staff were "absolutely delighted" at the achievements.

He said: "What a night. The awards will give the team a boost in these difficult times."

Also celebrating after scooping the national Whisky Bar Award again were Colin and Ros Thompson who run Dornoch Castle Hotel with sons Philip and Simon.

The establishment is known world-wide for it vast selection of rare and unique vintage malts. Philip and Simon Thompson run Dornoch distillery, which is associated with the hotel.

It was a welcome fillip for the family, who two weeks ago launched a crowdfunder offering buy-in-advance vouchers in a bid to raise money to see the hotel through to the end of the coronavirus crisis.

Earlier this week the crowdfunder, which ends next week, stood at a little over £58,000.

The Kylesku hotel is no stranger to awards and now has another one to add to its rapidly growing list.

The boutique hotel, an old coaching inn on the shores of Loch Glendhu, won the Highland region Informal Fine Diner Award.
