A PUBLIC drop-in event staged in Easter Ross giving people the chance to speak to a wide variety of agencies under one roof has been voted a success and could now be repeated elsewhere.

The community event at the Duthac Centre in Tain offered access to police, fire, health and housing agencies and advice on everything from anti-social behaviour to fire safety, crime prevention, addiction support and cost of living help.

Groups involved included Police Scotland, Highland Council, NHS Highland, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, Cairn Housing, Albyn Housing, Home Energy Scotland and Tain and District Development Trust.

The Highlands and Islands division of Police Scotland was involved in setting up the gathering which allowed people to engage directly, ask questions and meet local groups supporting their community.

The event was well received and many of the agencies which attended are keen to see it extended to other communities across the region.

Inspector Chris Murray, based in Tain, said: “This was a real success which gave our community the opportunity to come together, speak to everyone in person, and highlight what support is available.

"The cost of living support and community groups within Tain are dedicated to supporting others to improve their circumstances. It was great to see so many in attendance, highlighting what they do and how to access their services.

"Once again I would like to thank everyone who attended, particularly the groups who give their time to support the community of Tain.”

Councillor for Tain and Easter Ross, Derek Louden, who visited the event, said: "This was a great initiative from Inspector Murray and the team at Police Scotland to bring a number of support agencies together in the one room. This gave potential clients a variety of contacts they could speak to delivering a broad range of help and support.

"The agencies also took advantage of the opportunity to talk to one another on areas of common interest. I hope to see this repeated in the future and also replicated in other communities."

Anyone interested in getting involved with a future event is invited to email their local policing team.
