Signage for Coyote Burger has started to appear at a prime Inverness riverside location – despite an objection being lodged against the plans.

The family-run burger bar, currently based in a smaller outlet in Academy Street, is to take residence in the premises formerly occupied by the Jimmy Chung’s Chinese buffet franchise in Bank Street.

An application for the signage above the entrance – which is now in place – and other signage, which hasn't been installed yet, was submitted to Highland Council last month.

It included illuminated elements, which are the focus of an objection from Highland Council's historic environment team which has direct responsibility for the management and conservation of the historic and archaeological heritage of the Highlands.

"While this is a building-frontage of negligible architectural quality, it is highly prominent on the riverside and within the city centre," it has stated. "The scale of the lettering may be acceptable, but internally illuminated signage is not supportable within the conservation area. Accordingly, we object to the proposals."

It is not yet known if the signage in place lights up.

A decision on the planning application is still to be made public.
