Numerous homes in communities on the far north coast were reportedly without electricity on Friday morning after unexpected power cuts in the area.

Two separate outages, both located between Bettyhill in the west and Baligill in the east, were reported at 6.11am and 6.56am on Friday.

Other communities affected include the likes of Farr, Kirtomy, Armadale and Strathy. The outage also extends close to the west of Portskerra and Melvich.

At the time of writing, engineers at Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) said they hoped to resotre power to one of the two outages by 11am, with the other timed for midday.

"We're sorry for the loss of supply," said a spokesperson. "Our engineers are on site working hard to get the power back on as quickly as they can. If you need more information, please call us on 105."
