Power company seeks consent for Kintradwell Wind Farm

Renewable energy company RES has applied to the Scottish Government for consent to build a 15-turbine wind farm north of Brora.

The company is seeking permission to establish the development on a site at Kintradwell Estate - the distance from Brora clock tower to the nearest turbine would be 7.7 kilometres.

According to background papers, the proposed height of the turbines is 149.9m to blade tip.

RES is required to seek consent from the government rather than the local authority under section 36 of the Electricity Act 1989 because the installed capacity of the wind farm would be in excess of 50 megawatts.

Originally 22 turbines were planned, but the number was scaled back in response to site survey work and local feedback.

The developer announced in December that it had signed an agreement with Brora based civil construction firm Edward Mackay Contractors giving them right of first refusal on the civil construction work for the scheme.

A statutory consultation period will be held by the Scottish Government to enable members of the public and statutory consultees to submit their comments on the proposals.

Scottish Ministers will make a determination in due course.
