Kinlochbervie Village Hall is having an open day on Saturday, June 8, to celebrate nearing the end of an extensive renovation project.

More than £63,000 was raised for the upgrade between the hall’s own fundraising and grants from Highland Leader, the ward discretionary fund and Reay Estate.

Work started in January to install central heating and a new kitchen and toilets as well as new lighting and flooring. The hall has been painted and drains renewed.

Kinlochbervie High School pupils are painting a large mural in the main hall depicting Ben Stack, Arkle and Foinaven, as well as the animal and marine life of the area.

The hall is well used for meetings and various activities including yoga, martial arts and country dancing. MP Jamie Stone holds his surgery there.

Hall committee chairman Sandras Kaczmarek said it was hoped the improved facility would now attract more business including weddings.

The June 8 celebrations start with an afternoon tea from 2pm-4pm with entertainment for younger children. A DVD charting the progress of the renovation will be playing on a loop. A family ceilidh, which is free of charge, takes place in the evening from 7pm-11pm featuring a licensed bar, local band and Gaelic singer.
