The politician visited the unit last month accompanied by Ariane Burgess, a Scottish Green candidate in the December UK election.

The pair spent around two hours meeting staff and clients at the centre, which provides services for older people.

Afterwards Mr Finnie said: “It was a real pleasure to visit the Bradbury Centre. This is a place where the community can come together and it was clear the centre was filled with happiness.

“I was deeply impressed by the attentive and dedicated staff who work hard to help people maintain their physical and mental health.

He added: “I’m very grateful for the invitation to visit the centre and wish everyone there all the best for the future.”

Mr Finnie was invited to the unit, which was extended last year, by manager Lorraine Askew who has known him since both served as police officers.

She said she was delighted that he had enjoyed the visit.
