Baguette hit PC on shoulder

A SOLDIER from Fort George threw a baguette at a female police officer in the arena of Rock Ness festival, Inverness Sheriff Court heard yesterday.

Fiscal Depute Eilidh Robertson described how 26 year-old Joseph Millar of the Scots C Company threw the baguette at PC Mairi Kemp who was next to food vans with colleagues in the arena about 1am on Saturday.

“It hit her shoulder and some liquid went down her shoulder,” said the fiscal.

She told Sheriff Andrew Berry the officer suffered no injury.

Millar pleaded guilty to assault when he appeared from custody and committing the offence while on bail.

Defence agent Rory Gowans said Millar was a serving soldier at Fort George.

Sheriff Berry said he noted Millar had previous convictions for assault and although he was being released on bail for criminal justice reports he told Millar all sentencing options remained open.

Millar will be sentenced on July 5.
