Pledge to donate to Fountain Road hall

Community group Go Golspie are holding a "pledge to donate" session on Main Street on Saturday.

They were recently awarded £9800 of stage one funding from the Scottish Land Fund to look into the potential purchase of Fountain Road Church Hall from the Church of Scotland.

The asking price is £200,000 and the group are in the process of applying for stage two funding to purchase the property. If successful in the application and the purchase, the community would be expected to raise a minimum of £10,000.

A Go Golspie spokesperson said: "We can't actually do any fundraising at the moment because we do not own the property. So what we are doing is asking people to 'pledge to donate' – in other words a promise of a donation when and if we are able to buy it. Some folk have already done so but we thought we would be pro-active tomorrow by setting up in front of the Fountain Road car park from 10.30 am to 1pm. You can pledge whatever you like."
